Drysdale breathed new life into its 2018 BFL season upstaging an inaccurate Ocean Grove by 13 points at Ray Menzies Memorial Oval on 26 May.
The Hawks snapped a six-game losing streak with its Round 8 win and it was their first victory since they played Queenscliff on 31 March.
It was the Hawks’ second win at Ocean Grove’s home surrounds in less than 12 months – Drysdale smashed the Grubbers by 10 goals last year in Round 13 at Ray Menzies Memorial Oval.
Drysdale coach Wade Chapman said it was a gutsy performance by his team.
“As I said after the game – really proud of the effort…the 22 players that took the field did their little bit,” Chapman told the Bellarine Voice.
“Just with the guys they are pretty competitive too – we had a good win first game (in Round 1) and then we have had six losses and thought enough is enough.”
Drysdale jumped the home side with a fast start and led the home by 14 points at quarter time.
Star Hawk forward Mathew Hebbard kicked three goals while team-mates Lane Sharrock and Ben Johnston each kicked two goals apiece.
Drysdale was without midfielder Josh Eddy, a former St Mary’s GFL player, while Kyle Davis and Jack Jenkins were sidelined.
Despite sitting at 2-6 after eight rounds, the Hawks play three of their next four matches at its home ground at Mortimer Oval.
Drysdale faces winnable games Torquay (away) in Round 10, Modewarre (home) in Round 11 and Queenscliff in Round 12 (home).
